Statement

Food is essential to life, but it is also social and political. Every time we eat, we make choices about who we are, and who we are not, and who we aspire to be. In Christianity, the Holy Eucharist is the most important of the seven sacraments; an outward and visible sign of inward and spiritual divine grace. In this sacrament, the very body and blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ is received. "You are what you eat," we like to say. Food taps into our feelings of health, safety, guilt, fear, happiness, success, and well-being.

I primarily use embroidery, but have also work in felt, watercolor, and even glitter. Historically, embroidery has decorated and adorned furnishings in the domestic environment, and religious establishments commissioned embroidery for ecclesiastical vestments and linens. In many cultures, embroidery has been used on clothing worn during important life rituals such as christenings, weddings, and funerals.
